The Role
This role sits within the wider EirGrid Group, which includes SONI and EirGrid plc, and operates across the Single Electricity Market (SEM) for the island of Ireland. EirGrid Group operates and develops the electricity system across Ireland and Northern Ireland, playing a central role in the transition to a low-carbon energy future. Through the SEM, operated jointly by SONI and EirGrid via the Single Electricity Market Operator (SEMO), energy can flow efficiently across the island and into European markets. The Operations & Asset Management function is central to delivering real-time and near-time system and market operations on a 24/7 basis across the island. As a Senior Controller (Settlement), you will play a key role in operating settlement processes, ensuring timelines and KPIs are met in line with the Trading and Settlement Code. You will work collaboratively across SONI and EirGrid teams, engaging with colleagues and market participants to support efficient, transparent and accurate market operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the Team Lead in coordinating and managing day-to-day settlement processing activities
* Provide subject matter and analytical expertise to resolve escalated operational issues
* Investigate and respond to formal and general queries from market participants within agreed timelines
* Monitor settlement activities to ensure compliance with procedures, codes and KPIs, acting as an escalation point where required
* Collaborate with other Senior Controllers to support business processes across settlement activities
* Plan and coordinate tasks and projects to support settlement delivery and improvements
* Identify recurring issues, update procedures, and contribute to process and documentation enhancements
* Support the development, training and coaching of team members
* Participate in testing activities within the Settlements function
* Produce and maintain operational and market reports, including daily reports, MOUG submissions and periodic internal/external reporting
* In cases of significant material impact, make recommendations to management and support implementation of agreed actions
Critical Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
* Third-level qualification (or equivalent) in Business, IT or a related discipline
* Minimum 3 years' experience in an administrative, operational, or business environment
* Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly (written and verbal)
* Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
* Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and quality focus
* Ability to work collaboratively within a team, with a flexible and proactive approach
Desirable
* Experience working in a regulated environment
* Knowledge of settlement processes, market codes, procedures and systems within electricity markets
* Experience in process improvement, reporting, or operational optimisation
