Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Specialist Rehabilitation to help develop and support the existing services across South, West, Mid and East Wales, including the developing Prolonged Disorders of Consciousness (PDOC) service and Major Trauma Centre (MTC).
The successful candidate will support a team of three Rehabilitation Consultants (across Spinal and Neuro Rehabilitation) and two Neurology Consultants. Applicants should have at least two years postgraduate training in specialist rehabilitation.
Main duties of the job
* Provide two weekly outpatient clinics (Complex Disability and Traumatic Brain Injury) and support PDOC assessment with follow-up.
* Ensure consistent Rehabilitation Medicine support to the Major Trauma Centre across the working week.
* Engage in academic activities; research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University School of Medicine.
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
* On Specialist Register for Rehabilitation Medicine/Neurology or within six months of expected receipt of CCT in Rehabilitation Medicine at time of interview.
Experience
* Experience in the management of Neurorehabilitation.
Skills
* Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working.
* Effective communication skills in written and spoken English suitable for discussing medical topics with patients and colleagues.
Clinical Governance
* Participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice.
* Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance.
* Proactive engagement with appraisal and revalidation (or equivalent).
Research
* Active research interests and ability to critically appraise research.
* Evidence of initiating, progressing and concluding research projects with publication.
Teaching
* Experience teaching medical/dental students and resident doctors/dentists.
* Organisation of undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching programmes.
Management
* Commitment to participating in and understanding of the management process.
* Effective leadership skills.
