Position Overview

Are you a Heritage Science Data specialist with interest in the UK Research and the Innovation Research Infrastructure for Conservation and Heritage Science (RICHeS) programme? This is a new and exciting opportunity to join the Conservation Department of one of the world’s leading art institutions. We are seeking a heritage science data specialist to contribute to the understanding and preservation of artworks in Tate's and other collections through the provision of access, expertise, data analysis and research; helping to expand the global reach and impact of conservation and heritage science.

Key Responsibilities

This part‑time role is critical in addressing the changing nature of data standardisation and sharing within heritage science, contributing to our aims of enabling optimal use and sharing of our research resources.

As part of a committed, knowledgeable team, you will carry out the cataloguing and sharing of Tate’s scientific and conservation research data, contribute to the Heritage Science Data Service and co‑deliver on access pathways and requests from external users. The RICHeS Heritage Science Data specialist role is key to providing access to heritage science within the UK, and our longer‑term ambition of developing a modern and contemporary art research hub.

Qualifications

You will hold a degree in a scientific discipline or data or information science/management or a relevant subject; or equivalent experience. You will have knowledge of heritage science data and experience of organising and managing this type of data within a complex environment. It is essential that you have experience in managing digital or documentation and or related projects, with an understanding of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles. You will need to have experience of working collaboratively, ideally with scientific teams, and be able to demonstrate strong documentation skills, including report writing. You will also have experience communicating with a range of stakeholders, including non‑technical audiences. This role requires effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written, visual and oral, as well as enthusiasm for expanding the impact of heritage science within the UK and globally.
