Salary: NJC Scale Point 24–27 (£35,412–£38,220 FTE, pro rata)
Hays Education is delighted to be supporting a client school in Middlesbrough with the recruitment of an experienced and motivated School Business Manager.This is a key leadership role within the school, working closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to ensure the effective management of finance, HR, estates, health and safety, and administrative operations. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the school runs efficiently, remains financially sustainable, and continues to provide a safe and well-managed environment for pupils and staff.
The roleAs School Business Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the school’s operational and business functions, including:
1. Financial management, budgeting, reporting, andpliance
2. Managing payroll, HR processes and staffing matters
3. Overseeing premises, estates, contracts and procurement
4. Leading on health and safety, risk management and statutorypliance
5. Line management of premises, administrative and operational staff
6. Supporting strategic planning and organisational development
7. Acting as a key point of contact with external stakeholders including local authorities and service providers
This is a varied and rewarding role suited to someone who enjoys balancing strategic input with hands-on operational responsibility in a busy school environment.
The ideal candidate will have:
8. A relevant qualification in business management, finance, administration or similar
9. Strong experience of budget setting, financial monitoring and reporting
10. Experience of managing staff and operational teams
11. Sound knowledge of HR, payroll and employment processes
12. Experience of premises and health & safety management
13. Excellent organisational,munication and time management skills
14. The ability to managepeting priorities and meet deadlines
15. Experience working in an education setting (desirable)
