We are seeking an experienced and compassionate nursing leader to join our Critical Care, Care Group as General ICU Matron – a co‑lead role of the 40‑bed Adult General Intensive Care Unit (GICU) / Surgical High Dependency (SHDU).
The role is pivotal in providing visible, professional leadership across our critical care services, ensuring the delivery of safe, high‑quality, patient‑centred care.
Key Responsibilities
* Work with a broad, multidisciplinary team to support staff in caring for emergency and elective patients, ensuring the clinical area is safe, effective and responsive.
* Coordinate safe, high‑quality care to improve and maintain patient experience within the Trust.
* Partner with critical care matron colleagues, Care Group and Divisional staff to champion the patient experience and maintain confidence in your area of responsibility.
* Maintain a visible presence where patients, staff and visitors can seek assistance and rely on you for fundamental and specialist aspects of care.
* Actively support team objectives by developing services and leading Care Group and Divisional projects to influence service redesign.
* Co‑responsible for a £13 million budget, ensuring effective resource utilisation and cost control.
* Provide strategic planning and service development, oversee day‑to‑day operations of the 70‑bed adult Critical Care footprint.
* Work predominantly Monday‑Friday, with some weekend and on‑call duties to cover the duty matron and staffing hub role as per an agreed rota.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
* Registered nurse (1st Level) on the relevant part of the NMC Register / HCPC Registration.
* First degree or equivalent; advanced degree or equivalent experience.
* Senior clinical leadership or clinical management experience in an acute setting.
* Evidence of advanced leadership qualities and formal/informal teaching experience.
* Staff and resource management experience.
* Extensive knowledge of National and Local NHS agendas and the Nurse and Midwife (N&M) agenda.
* Leadership training and management training.
* Specialist qualification(s) relevant to critical care nursing.
