Responsibilities
* provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training
* develop strategy for our sectors and produce the tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes
* commission and manage external research projects where needed
* work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players
* Responding to incidents is a central part of the role; you will be asked to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident
The Energy & COMAH team is part of the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation within the Environment & Business (E&B) Directorate. Our technical experts lead on the definition of standards for our sectors, providing strategic direction, tools in support of regulation, guidance and training, and environmental best practice.
Experience / Skills Required
* ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work
* relevant technical and regulatory knowledge and experience in the work area for the role, gained by working within or regulating relevant processes; knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant
* ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia
* ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals

1. Legislative Knowledge – Applies knowledge of statutory environmental and technical requirements to protect both the Environment Agency and the environment. Senior advisor for the energy sectors provides advice on regulatory requirements for combustion plants of different sizes and purposes.
2. Works in Teams – Works cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals. Describe a time you worked as part of a team delivering a portfolio of work and how you managed priorities.
3. Builds and Sustains Relationships – Develops and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Provide an example of working with different stakeholder types and how you adapted your approach.
