Pricing at Marshmallow
This role will sit in the Pricing Team, reporting into the Pricing Data Science Manager. The team is responsible for managing our loss ratio, underwriting footprint, broker optimisation and growth targets, proving integral to driving the business forwards. But you’ve probably read that all before! So what’s new?
We work in a very different way to most pricing teams that you might be familiar with. Everyone in Pricing has the potential to make significant contribution to the business, taking ownership, moving fast, innovating and delivering changes to our rates at high frequency.
We don’t just churn out GLMs all day. We build & deploy exceptional in‑house pricing data science models using the latest modelling techniques. You’ll work alongside other Pricing Data Scientists & Analysts pushing innovative pricing projects, whilst also being able to work with the wider Data Science community on modelling customer behaviour, fraud & MLENG enhancements.
We work alongside a bunch of amazing engineers who ensure we can implement our decisions quickly. We also have access to huge amounts of data. We don’t just mean your standard policy, claims and quote data. Our engineers spend their lives building APIs to third parties so that we know more about our customers than any of our competitors.
All of this means that you’ll have access to as much data as you can handle, the freedom to be creative, the backing of senior leaders to make decisions, and the ability to see your ideas implemented rapidly. And on top of all of that, we’re a pretty fun group to hang around with!
What you’ll be doing
* Developing a deep understanding of Marshmallow’s quote, policy and claims data and use this to derive insights that can be used to enhance our pricing.
* Owning one of the strategic initiatives of the pricing team, such as supporting our expansion plans or protecting our renewing customers.
* Communicating & getting buy‑in for your plans to heads of & directors cross‑functionally.
* Conducting claims analysis and claims modelling using SQL and Python.
* Conducting price optimisation analysis/modelling using Python.
* Building and deploying models in APIs for use in real‑time pricing.
* Working with other members of pricing to recommend changes and monitor their impact.
* Identify new sources of external data that enable us to refine our view of claims risk, and conduct analysis to quantify their value.
* Working directly with our Engineering & MLENG functions to implement pricing proposals.
* Providing analytical support in relationships with reinsurers, regulators and other partners.
* Working within the wider data science community on longer‑term R&D projects.
* Providing pricing support for the launch of multiple new products.
* Potential to manage a small team of pricing analysts & pricing data scientists, overseeing both the technical aspects of their work as well as their career development.
