This role sits within our UK Wastewater Services (UKWWS) team, supporting major water utility companies on wastewater and sewage treatment sites across the UK.
The Role
We’re looking for a skilled, reliable and safety‑focused Class 2 HI‑AB Driver to join our Dumfries‑based team.
This is a hands‑on, varied role combining Class 2 driving, HI‑AB crane operation and on‑site support for mechanical and electrical works on wastewater treatment sites. You’ll be actively involved in lifting, installing and removing machinery, working closely with engineers and site teams.
The role involves regular working away, typically Monday to Friday, with overnight stays in your vehicle. If you enjoy practical outdoor work, take pride in operating and maintaining high‑quality equipment, and want to play a key role in essential infrastructure — this could be a great fit for you.
What You’ll Be Doing
1. Driving Class 2 vehicles and operating HI‑AB cranes on sewage treatment sites
2. Leading lifting operations and ensuring loads are safely secured
3. Lifting, removing and installing machinery and equipment
4. Supporting mechanical and electrical engineering activities on site
5. Carrying out daily and weekly vehicle and crane checks and maintenance
6. Working outdoors in all weather conditions (full PPE provided)
7. Staying away overnight during the working week
8. Occasional Saturday morning work for vehicle cleaning, checks and loading
What You’ll Need
Essential Requirements
9. Full UK driving licence (ideally no more than 6 penalty points)
10. Class 2 / HGV licence
11. Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card
12. HI‑AB / Crane Operator licence
13. Willingness to work on wastewater and sewage treatment sites
14. Ability to work at height and outdoors in all weather conditions
15. Flexibility to stay away overnight on a regular basis (Monday–Friday)
16. Physical capability for manual work including lifting, kneeling and crouching
17. Willingness to complete confined space training and work as part of a confined space team
18. Pride in keeping your vehicle and equipment clean, safe and well‑maintained
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
19. Confined Space certification (City & Guilds preferred)
20. Slinger or Crane Supervisor qualification
21. Mechanical engineering or industrial mechanical fitting background
22. Knowledge of LOLER and BS (safe use of cranes)
23. Awareness of lifting regulations and best practice
Skills & Attributes
24. Minimum 2 years’ Class 2 driving experience
25. Experience loading flatbed wagons and securing loads
26. Strong understanding of construction industry Health & Safety
27. Reliable, professional and approachable — a strong team player
28. Clear communicator with customers, colleagues and management
29. Organised, methodical and able to meet deadlines
30. A positive attitude with pride in quality workmanship
