About the role:
We wish to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced individual to lead and oversee the BDS Programme. This will include chairing meetings, curriculum, programme and assessment delivery, attendance at University meetings and external meetings as needed in consultation with the Director of Undergraduate Medicine and Dentistry (DUMD).
Main duties of the job
Work with the DUMD and the wider programme team to develop and refine content and delivery of our BDS and BSc programmes, ensuring that they remain dynamic, relevant, and responsive to the evolving needs of dental education, while also meeting the requirements of our programme specification and GDC regulations.
Support the team to maintain a student-centric focus aimed at championing student success by providing dedicated support, responding to feedback, and fostering an inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive.
The successful candidate will be managerially and academically responsible to the University of Manchester, and specifically to the Head of the Division of Dentistry and the Director of Medical and Dental Studies.

* Primary Responsibilities Teaching and Scholarship
* Provide oversight of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programme (5-year term renewable).
* Lead / co-lead teaching, curriculum development, examinations and assessment processes.
* Teach, mentor, supervise and assess undergraduate and postgraduate students across relevant dental specialty (BDS/BSc). Provide academic leadership, innovation and quality assurance in learning and teaching.
* Design and deliver teaching materials across varied modalities.
* Support student progression, feedback, admissions and interviews. Ensure teaching quality meets University expectations and remains research informed.
* Contribute to scholarly activity and pursue suitable opportunities.
* Engage with School/Division committees as required. In addition, for Chair appointments
* Attract, supervise and support postgraduate research students at MSc and PhD level
* Provide academic leadership and innovation and promote excellence in learning and teaching at The University. Service and Leadership
* Participate as a full member of the Division of Dentistry through activities, meetings, events etc.
* Provide academic leadership, development, mentoring and career management for junior colleagues.
* Advise upon and contribute to the development of junior academic staff in areas of teaching and publications. In addition, for Chair appointments
* Forge relations with the academic sector, the public sector, industry and the community compatible with the University and Trusts external affairs agenda.
* Lead and contribute to the Division of Dentistry implementation of the Manchester 2035 strategy.
* Enhance the international standing and profile of the Division of Dentistry and the Manchester Dental Hospital.
* Clinical element for appointment to Clinical Senior Lecturer only
* Contribute to teaching and learning in any relevant dental specialty, primarily focused on the UG BDS and BSc programmes.
