We are seeking a passionate and skilled Stroke Physician to join our dynamic Stroke Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, evidence-based stroke care within a modern and well-resourced healthcare setting. We welcome applicants with Stroke, Neurology, Acute Medicine or Geriatrics experience.

We are seeking a Consultant Stroke Physician with a focus on developing mechanical thrombectomy services. Applicants must have full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register or be eligible for inclusion within six months of the interview date. This is a 10 PA contract plus on-call.

We are looking for an individual to work within a forward-thinking department committed to excellence in acute and rehabilitation stroke and TIA services. The department typically provides an in-hours mechanical thrombectomy service, Monday to Friday, supported by Barts Health out of hours. Currently, we are providing alternate week 24/7 MT cover until further notice. You will provide specialist stroke care across the entire patient pathway from hyperacute and acute stroke management to rehabilitation.

Main duties of the job

·Delivery of comprehensive care for stroke patients admitted to BHRUT

·Undertaking ward rounds

·Conducting multidisciplinary meetings

·Responsible for prompt discharge planning of stroke patients under their care

·Teaching and training junior doctors and medical students

·Support the development of the specialty in line with the Trust’s overall strategic direction and objectives in line with the vision of the Clinical Lead

·Ensuring clinical leadership to the stroke service and adherence to the National Stroke Standards

·Ensuring clinical pathways within stroke medicine are appropriate and well managed

·Working in conjunction with ICBs to ensure a safely delivered stroke and TIA service

·Ensuring appropriate protocols are in place for stroke and TIA patients

·Working alongside the Clinical Lead, Matron and General Manager to ensure that Patient Access targets are adhered to

·Supporting training opportunities within stroke medicine in conjunction with the Clinical Lead

·Working alongside the Clinical Lead to ensure that appropriate processes are in place according to National Stroke Standards and support delivery of the Trust’s strategic objectives

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 94,000 scans a year.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Full registration with the General Medical Council
2. Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or be eligible for inclusion within six months
3. MRCP (UK) or equivalent

Desirable criteria

4. Additional relevant medical degree
5. Peer-reviewed publications
6. Presentations at international meetings

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
