We have an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Clinical Lead to join our Mental Health team at HMP Whatton, a category C Prison located in Nottinghamshire.
About The Role
HMP Whatton is a male adult prison with a capacity of 855. The Mental Health Clinical Lead role is approximately 80% managerial and 20% clinical. Candidates should have experience leading a team, including managing rotas and annual leave, with strong organisational and leadership skills. Ideal candidates will have managed a team of 4 nurses and 1 mental health practitioner (total team size of 5). Previous prison healthcare experience is highly desirable, alongside proven managerial experience within mental health services.
Hours
* Monday - Friday
* 37.5 hours per week
* 8:30am - 4:30pm
Salary
This is a full‑time position. Annual salary is £51,643 – £58,012 per annum (FTE), depending on experience.

Legal Right to Work
Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK. Due to the nature of the role, offers will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.
Responsibilities
* Lead and work with the Integrated Healthcare Services Mental Health team.
* Provide clinical leadership and management to registered nurses and allied health professionals.
* Establish inter‑agency working to enhance communication and quality of care.
* Ensure own clinical practice aligns with the autonomous practice within the role.
* Provide nursing triage, screening and assessment based on the Wellbeing Approach and Practice Plus mental health policy.
* Participate actively in developing local operating procedures to clarify pathways for clinicians.
* Ensure complaints and concerns related to mental health are handled in a timely manner.
* Nurse‑lead treatment or care within mental health.
* Manage waiting lists to maintain minimal waiting times for patients.
* Manage medicines and give advice, including supporting medicine administration.
Qualifications
* Registered Mental Health Nurse (currently registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council).
* BSc or equivalent qualification.
* Experience providing supervision.
* Experience in teaching or mentoring (or related qualification).
* Evidence of ongoing professional development to maintain up‑to‑date knowledge and competence.
* Experience in a hospital, community or prison environment is desirable.
