We're looking for a highly talented and experienced Analytical Team Leader to join ECD's Analytical Chemistry group. The individual will have extensive experience in analytical science within a leadership setting, preferably with expertise in early phase clinical development. A passion for working in new scientific areas and developing solutions to technical and project challenges is essential.
The role focuses on managing a team of analytical scientists, supporting them in implementing analytical strategies to advance small molecule drug development programs. As a line manager, you will provide leadership, coaching, mentorship, and technical input into projects. You will collaborate with other skill groups and organizations to ensure project activities are delivered on time, with scientific rigor and quality.
As a member of the Early Chemical Development Leadership Team, you will offer expertise and leadership in analytical sciences, contribute to strategic business development, and manage resources to meet project targets. You will work across the company and externally to implement new technologies and maintain industry and regulatory awareness.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Implement analytical strategy across ECD's small molecule portfolio, tracking portfolio progress and managing resource allocation based on project priorities.
2. Provide expert guidance to analytical scientists supporting development, manufacturing, and clinical release activities.
3. Build and shape the team to meet AstraZeneca's future needs, coaching individual development and performance.
4. Develop departmental goals aligned with team members' objectives.
5. Ensure compliance with SHE, quality, and GMP standards, and drive continuous improvement.
6. Lead scientific delivery through others, influence cross-functionally, and evaluate external opportunities to inform strategy.
Qualifications:
* BSc/PhD in Chemistry, Analytical Science, or related discipline with significant experience in CMC development.
* Thorough knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry standards and developments.
* Experience in technical supervision, coaching, and team leadership within analytical development.
* Strong understanding of SHE and cGMP principles.
* Excellent influencing, stakeholder management, and prioritization skills.
Desirable Skills:
* Strong leadership within and outside analytical groups.
* Ability to analyze complex situations and provide strategic direction.
* Excellent communication and influencing skills across disciplines.
* Experience with productivity improvements and digital solutions.
* Regulatory documentation experience as a CMC author or reviewer.
