Transport Technician (Active Travel) - Fixed term until 11/06/2026

Salary: £33,287 - £39,129
Hours: 36 per week
An opportunity has arisen within the Council's Active Travel team for a fixed term Transport Technician post to cover a maternity leave based at the Council's Headquarters, Waverley Court.
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to undertake this challenging but highly rewarding role. You will be part of a team designing, managing and co-ordinating small projects associated with Edinburgh's ambitious City Mobility Plan. Specifically, the successful candidate will manage the design and delivery of the City-Wide Public Bike Parking scheme and the Modal Filters programme. This is an excellent role to develop your career within a roads and public realm design, construction and project management environment.
The successful candidate should have good knowledge of how to use AutoCAD or similar CAD software, GIS and have good communication and organization skills. They are expected to work independently with support from other team members and line manager.
The role also involves responding to public and elected members' enquiries about Active Travel related projects received to the team's public mailbox.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.

Responsibilities
Experience:
* Experience in designing small to medium public realm construction projects following relevant design guidelines and standards;
* Experience of preparing technical drawings/plans using bespoke IT packages (AutoCAD);
* Experience of undertaking on-site measurements, surveys, setting out and any associated preliminary investigations;
* Experience of liaising, consulting and engaging with other sections/Departments, statutory undertakers, landowners and other stakeholders involved in or affected by a project;
* Experience of site supervision and control/management of contracts, ensuring compliance with Health and Safety legislation, NRSWA, the Departmental Quality Management System and all other relevant specifications and legislation;
* Experience in preparing professional reports for both technical and non-technical readers.
* Communicating in a concise and factual manner regarding any matters, including decisions made, to other colleagues, contractors, stakeholders and to members of the public.
* Experience responding to public and elected members' enquiries.
Knowledge, skills and understanding:
* Detailed knowledge of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB), The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016 and other relevant standards and legislation;
* Knowledge of the Edinburgh Street Design Guidance and the Council's City Mobility Plan;
* Awareness of Health and Safety legislation and risk assessment processes as they relate to office duties and construction ;
* Highly developed numeracy skill ;
* Highly developed organisational and project management skills;
* High quality communication skills – both written and oral;
* Highly developed IT skills;
* Ability to work on own or as part of a team.
Qualifications and training:
* Degree or equivalent, in relevant discipline such as Civil Engineering or Project Management; or possess knowledge, skills and/or experience to enable the delivery of civil engineering projects.
Job specific requirements:

* Ability to cope with changing priorities and keep to deadlines
* AutoCAD or similar software proficiency
* Valid driving licence. (Desirable)
