About the role:
Senior Social Work Practitioner (EDT) provides out-of-hours emergency
statutory support across Powys for children and adults. The role involves
assessing risk, prioritising urgent referrals, and undertaking safeguarding and Mental Health Act duties. It requires independent decision-making in crisis situations, arranging emergency care or placements, and liaising with partner agencies. The post ensures continuity of services, accurate recording, and high quality interventions to protect vulnerable individuals outside normal office hours.

• Strong ability to assess risk and prioritise urgent situations
• Confident ndependent decision-making in crisis settings
• Advanced skills in safeguarding, assessment, and intervention
• Effective multi-agency working and communication
• Ability to manage complex cases and uncertainty
• Competence in record keeping, IT systems, and report writing
What you will do:
• Respond to emergency referrals out of hours, assessing risk and urgency
• Carry out safeguarding investigations for children and adults at risk
• Undertake Mental Health Act (AMHP) assessments and statutory duties
• Make decisions on emergency placements or support (e.g. accommodation, care)
• Provide advice and support to families, individuals, and partner agencies
• Work with police, health and other services in multi-agency responses
• Record all actions and decisions accurately on systems like WCCIS
• Help maintain continuity of care services (e.g. reablement, domiciliary care)
