About The Role

Are you passionate about creating safer workplaces and making a real difference in one of the UK’s most ambitious infrastructure projects? At EDF, we’re looking for someone who thrives on responsibility and collaboration to help us deliver our Zero Harm ambition at Hinkley Point C. If you’re ready to lead with purpose and ensure the health and safety of thousands, this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

This role requires you to be on-site at Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater for a minimum of 3 days per week.

The Opportunity

At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

As a Conventional Safety Lead, you’ll be a key part of our Health, Safety and Learning function, ensuring that our legal obligations under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 are met. You’ll work closely with our construction partners, regulators, and internal teams to embed a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Your experience in within a highly regulated industry will help shape a safer future for all involved in this landmark project.

Pay, Benefits & Culture

The salary range associated with this role is competitive and will be aligned dependant on experience. We offer a competitive benefits package, including a company pension scheme, and a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle. We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be the go-to expert for ensuring our compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, specifically in relation to the Client’s responsibilities. Your role will be pivotal in shaping and maintaining high standards of health and safety across the project, ensuring that risks are managed proportionately and effectively.

You’ll lead audits, reviews, and assessments to identify best practices and areas for improvement, working closely with regulators and certification bodies. Your insights will help drive innovation and continuous improvement, ensuring that safety, quality, cost, and programme goals are met.

From supporting incident investigations to managing office-related health and safety matters, you’ll be a visible and proactive presence across the project. You’ll also play a key role in promoting wellbeing, maintaining risk assessments, and ensuring our safety culture is embedded at every level.

Who You Are

You bring a strong foundation in occupational health and safety, holding a NEBOSH Diploma and membership with IOSH or EIT, ideally working towards Chartership. Your experience spans complex engineering or construction projects, and you’re confident navigating the challenges and opportunities they present.

You have expert knowledge of the CDM Regulations 2015 and a deep understanding of health and safety practices in high-hazard industries. Your communication skills are second to none, you can engage with a wide range of stakeholders and present data clearly and persuasively.

You’re comfortable working with regulators, analysing safety data, and applying your insights to drive improvements. Your attention to detail, combined with a collaborative mindset, makes you a trusted advisor and a champion for safety across the board.

Additionally, you must meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which generally requires you to have been a UK resident for at least 3 of the last 5 years.

Closing date for applications is 3rd August; interviews will follow shortly after.
