Job Overview An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated midwife to take on the role of Lead Midwife for Preterm Birth at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. This is a unique opportunity for a registered midwife with a passion for improving outcomes in maternity care to lead on the development and coordination of services aimed at the prevention and management of preterm birth. The successful candidate will work across both of our maternity sites—Frimley Park Hospital in Camberley and Wexham Park Hospital in Slough—supporting the implementation of evidence-based care pathways for women identified as being at increased risk of preterm labour and birth. The role will involve close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including obstetricians, antenatal screening, neonatal teams, and external partners, to ensure timely, effective, and woman-centred care. Main duties of the job The post holder will play a key role in the management and coordination of care for individuals at risk of preterm birth. This includes triaging referrals efficiently and appropriately, ensuring timely access to specialist services. They will act as a central point of contact, liaising with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to facilitate effective communication and continuity of care. The post holder will lead and support quality improvement initiatives and clinical audit projects aimed at enhancing preterm birth prevention and outcomes. They will collect and analyse relevant data, contribute to service development, and share findings to inform best practice. Collaboration is essential in this role, and the post holder will work closely with the Antenatal and Newborn Screening teams across both hospital sites. They will support the integration of screening results into the care pathway, ensuring that patients identified as high-risk receive appropriate follow-up. The post holder will also contribute to staff education and training, promote evidence-based care, and help implement national and local guidelines. Strong organisational, communication, and analytical skills are vital to succeed in this role, along with a commitment to improving maternal and neonatal outcomes.
