Pastoral and Welfare Team:
The pastoral team is central to the school's success. Working alongside Heads of Year, counsellors, attendance staff, safeguarding leads and external agencies, the Welfare Officer plays a vital role in supporting students experiencing social, emotional or medical challenges. This includes anxiety, family issues, friendship difficulties, behaviour concerns, low self-esteem or mental health challenges.
The Welfare Officer will be a compassionate, patient and highly organised professional who can build trust with students and families, manage sensitive situations and maintain clear, detailed records. The role involves daily student support, coordinating welfare referrals, attending meetings with external agencies, liaising with parents, supporting interventions, contributing to safeguarding processes and helping students access required pastoral services.
You will also help run wellbeing initiatives, support safe spaces for vulnerable students, contribute to restorative approaches and monitor student progress during interventions. The school seeks someone emotionally intelligent, calm under pressure and committed to safeguarding and student welfare.
Requirements
• Experience working with young people in a pastoral, welfare, youth work or support capacity
• Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection and early help procedures
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive conversations professionally
• Empathy, resilience and a calm approach when supporting students in crisis
• Ability to maintain accurate and confidential records
• Strong organisational and time-management skills
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-agency pastoral team
• Confidence engaging with families and external support services
