This role is a Post Doctoral Research Fellow (FTC) at the University of Nottingham, Sutton Bonington Campus. It is part of the multidisciplinary project "Future proofing plants through enhancement of yield stability in water-limited environments".
Salary
£35,116 to £46,735 per annum pro-rata depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

Responsibilities
* Support a multidisciplinary BBSRC-funded project “Future proofing plants through enhancement of yield stability in water-limited environments.”
* Identify anatomical and physiological mechanisms underlying maize yield stability under reduced water availability in the laboratory of Dr. Gabriel Castrillo (Sutton Bonington Campus, University of Nottingham, UK).
* Assess the impact of drought on plant mineral nutrients accumulation and microbiota composition and function in a collection of maize germplasm exhibiting diverse levels of yield stability under drought stress.
* Characterize the processes of water movement through the soil-root-stem-leaf-atmosphere system and reveal traits at each point in the system that contribute to enhanced yield stability in maize.
* Work closely with project partners, especially at Purdue University (USA) and IPK (Germany).
* Publish research findings and contribute to scientific outputs.
* Work on a full-time fixed-term contract (36.25 hours per week) from 1 September 2025 to 31 July 2028.
Qualifications
* PhD in a relevant plant sciences area (a PhD topic on plant-microbiota interactions is desirable).
* Desirable experience in plant science, plant-microbiota interactions, microbiology, plant nutrition.
* A track record of publishing research is essential.
* Highly motivated and self-driven.
