The Science Department The Science department is a cornerstone of our curriculum, operating out of a suite of modern, well-equipped laboratories. Main Duties and Responsibilities As a Science Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in developing the scientific literacy of our learners. Your responsibilities will include: Instructional Excellence: Planning and delivering high-quality lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. You will be expected to teach all three sciences at GCSE level, ensuring students grasp the fundamental principles of energy, matter, and living systems. A-Level Specialism: For candidates with the relevant experience, there are opportunities to lead classes in your core specialism at Key Stage 5, preparing students for the transition to university or degree apprenticeships. Practical Innovation: Designing and managing safe, effective practical sessions. You will work closely with our technician team to bring the curriculum to life through experiments that challenge students to think like researchers. Assessment and Feedback: Implementing a robust system of formative and summative assessment. You will provide clear, actionable feedback that helps students understand their progress and identify their next steps for improvement. Curriculum Development: Contributing to the ongoing review and enhancement of our schemes of work, ensuring they remain relevant to contemporary scientific issues such as climate change, medical ethics, and technological advancement. Extracurricular Impact: Supporting the wider life of the school through STEM clubs, science fairs, and industry visits, helping students see the real-world applications of their classroom learning. Person Specification The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic subject advocate who can inspire students of all abilities. You should possess: Academic and Professional Credentials: A degree in a Science discipline and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). We welcome applications from both experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers (ECTs). Subject Versatility: The ability to teach across the three core sciences at Key Stage 3 and 4, with a deep mastery of your specific specialism for higher-level teaching. Pedagogical Skill: A toolkit of teaching strategies that allow you to differentiate effectively, ensuring that every student is appropriately challenged and supported. Communication and Rapport: The ability to build positive relationships with students, fostering a classroom environment based on mutual respect and a shared love of learning.
