Learning Disabilities Clinical Nurse Specialist
Due to an expansion in the team, an exciting opportunity has arisen within Gateshead Health for a Learning Disabilities CNS to be a key senior member of the Learning Disabilities team.
The successful applicant will work alongside the established Learning Disability Team to develop, initiate, lead, and manage clinical assessments, formulations, interventions, staff training, and special projects aligned with the Trust's aims, service plan, and operational policies.
This post is open to any Learning Disabilities trained Nurse or any Adult or Children’s training nurses with lived experience in learning disabilities.
Main duties of the job
* Lead the provision of education and training to clinical staff, demonstrating high professional nursing skills, competency, and knowledge of patients with learning disabilities.
* Improve the quality of care received by individuals with learning disabilities in the acute hospital setting.
* Lead and coordinate the development of pathways for patients with learning disabilities, utilizing evidence-based practices in line with national standards for patient safety and clinical practice, as well as local protocols.
* Manage the interface between mainstream hospital services, primary care, and community specialist disability services.
* Work autonomously and be accountable for planning and delivering all aspects of patient care related to learning disabilities, in accordance with the NMC code.

Job responsibilities
* Provide specialist clinical advice to nursing staff, the multidisciplinary team, patients, families, and partner organizations.
* Lead education and training for nursing and allied health professionals, including health promotion.
* Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop patient pathways for those with learning disabilities.
* Coordinate care for patients with learning disabilities.
