Cobham Clinic is a 13 bedded private surgical ward consisting of many different specialities, urology, bariatrics, colorectal, maxillofacial, ENT, orthopaedics and general surgery. We look after a broad range of post-operative patients above the age of 16 who are likely to be discharged within 24 to 72 hours. This will give you a great opportunity to provide high quality care, widen your knowledge, evidence based nursing care to patients managing post-surgical patients.
Our ward is fast paced, led by a dynamic multidisciplinary team consisting of various speciality consultants. The band 5 registered nurse will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure safe, effective and person centered care throughout the surgical pathway, including pre-operative and post-operative stages.
New staff joining the ward will have great support from our experienced Band 5’s, Band 6’s and 7. As a ward we believe in great team work, and you will be encouraged to further your professional development and be given the opportunity to expand your knowledge base.
This vacancy is not suitable for newly qualified nurses.
Main duties of the job
·Deliver safe, effective and compassionate care
·Undertake comprehensive assessments, plan, implement, and evaluate patients care plans.
·Assist in pre-operative preparations, getting patients ready for theatre ensuring relevant assessments are carried out.
·Monitor patient post-operative recovery, this includes vital signs, pain management, wound care fluid balance monitoring.
·Recognising and respond to patient deterioration and escalate as appropriate.
·Administer medication and treatment in accordance to the NMC guidelines and trust policy.
·Support patients and families with education and health promotion.
·Where relevant be responsible for co coordinating / discharge planning in partnership with the multidisciplinary team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical responsibilities will include deliverance of high standards of patient centred care ensuring dignity, privacy and respect.
Carry out assessments, plan ,implement and evaluate care for surgical patients.
Administer medications safely in line with trust policies and the NMC Code.
Monitor, assess and respond to changes in patients conditions, escalating concerns appropriately.
Care for surgical wounds, drains, catheters and IV lines according to clinical guidelines.
Provide pain management, and support enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathways.
Assist with admissions, transfer and discharge of patients including patient education and discharge planning.
Maintain clear, accurate and timely documentation in line with the trust and NMC requirements.
Communicate effectively with patients relatives and multidisciplinary team.
Provide health education and support to patients and carers regarding surgical procedures and recovery.
Participate in ward handovers and meetings.
Act as a role model for junior staff, healthcare assistants, and students.
Contribute to a positive, supportive team culture.
Take responsibility for own learning and professional development.
Engage in appraisal, supervision and reflective practice.
Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement, and service development initiatives.
Report incidents, accidents and near ,misses in line with trust procedures.
