Salary: Up to £32,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Reporting to: Production Manager / Managing Director
Role Overview
This is a newly created role within a traditional manufacturing business, where stock and purchasing activities are managed through paper-based systems and Excel spreadsheets. The Stock Control & Purchasing Supervisor will support the Production Manager and Managing Director in improving stock control methods while also taking responsibility for day-to-day purchasing activity.
The role will oversee approximately £400,000 worth of stock, across circa 400 SKUs, supplied by around 25 UK-based suppliers. The focus is on improving accuracy, control, visibility, and discipline across stock and purchasing in a practical, hands-on manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Stock Control
• Ownership of stock control for approximately £400k of inventory across circa 400 SKUs
• Maintain accurate stock records using manual systems and Excel spreadsheets
• Review and strengthen existing stock control processes
• Ensure stock supports production schedules while minimising waste
• Oversee goods-in, stock movements, and adjustments
• Conduct stock takes, cycle counts, and investigate variances
• Produce stock reports for management
• Supervise staff involved in stock handling
• Ensure compliance with health & safety procedures
Purchasing
• Responsibility for day-to-day purchasing activity
• Raise purchase orders and maintain supplier records
• Manage relationships with 25 UK-based suppliers
• Monitor supplier performance and deliveries
• Order materials in line with production requirements
• Support cost control and pricing consistency
Skills & Experience
• Experience in stock control or warehouse supervision with purchasing exposure
• Background in traditional manufacturing environments
• Strong Excel and manual system experience
• Ability to manage high-value stock and multiple suppliers
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
