* Funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research, Somerset Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) is a 5-year programme (2024 – 2028) delivered by Somerset Council, University of West of England (UWE) and University College London (UCL), along with VCFSE partner, Spark Somerset. The Collaboration is designed to build the capacity of Somerset Council to do research, together with our communities, on the social determinants of health: these are the building blocks of health that everyone needs to live a healthy life, such as good education, housing, and living and working conditions.
* This post is a temporary post for 12-months to cover maternity leave, starting from February 2026.
* The role sits within our Business Development and Research Intelligence Workstream. You will apply your data analysis and research governance skills to support high impact research projects with academic and local partners, including community and public sector organisations.
* This involves leading the development and implementation of research governance processes within the HDRC and identifying and responding to the data management system needs for Somerset Council.
* 30 days' annual leave (plus bank holidays).
What will I be doing?
We're working to improve the lives of people in Somerset who face unfair and avoidable disadvantage, to give everyone a fair chance of a healthy life – and you'll be a key part of that. Your day-to-day work will involve:
* Collaborate with the Business Development and Research Intelligence Manager to set workstream priorities, track progress, and ensure delivery aligns with Somerset HDRC's programme goals and reporting requirements.
* Manage research related data and intelligence requests from a range of stakeholders including service directorates. Be able to understand and define their requirements in order to advise on suitable approaches to identifying, protecting, collating, and analysing data.
* Work closely with other HDRC workstreams to support research funding opportunities from application through to completion. This includes identifying research governance requirements and relevant data sources which relate to the social and economic determinants of health, health and wellbeing outcomes data.
* Support researchers with access to data subject to all necessary governance and protections at each stage.
* Performing data analysis with application of rigorous statistical techniques appropriate to data analysis for research purposes.
What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?
We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you:
* Have a degree level qualification in public health/global health/epidemiology with a focus on quantitative data management and analysis.
* The role requires a good understanding of research governance and how to apply it in practice.
* Able to analyse and share data clearly, using visuals to make information easy to understand. Comfortable with tools like Power BI, Excel, GIS, or similar software.
* Have knowledge of statistics and analysis utilising information from public health, local authorities, and/or the NHS.
* Ability to gather, arrange, process and model structured or unstructured data.
* Previous experience (preferably in a public health field / local authority / academic / NHS background) of collating data into reports, critical appraisal, evidence reviews and evaluation / small scale research projects.
* Can deal with changing and competing deadlines and priorities and support the wider work of the HDRC team, when required.

The salary for this Grade 10 role is £37,280 to £41,771 per annum.
