Clinical Support Worker - Occupational Therapy Stroke

The closing date is 06 April 2026

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Occupational Therapy Stroke inpatient Team. As an Occupational Therapy Support Worker you will work closely with the Occupational Therapists and with the wider multi-disciplinary team to provide a patient centred approach to engaging patients whilst adjusting this to reflect their fluctuating needs. You will need to have good communication skills, good time management, prioritisation skills and be flexible. In addition the role will be vital to support the smooth running of the department by undertaking some administrative tasks.

The successful candidate will be able to understand the key contribution that meaningful activity plays in a persons life, be able to enable rather than ‘do for’ and be keen to develop their knowledge and skills.

You will be working directly with patients following delegated OT treatment plans both independently and jointly with the OTs. Consequently you will need to have great communication skills, be computer literate, able to juggle your own time and be able to support the work of the team in hospital and at times in the community.

You will receive regular supervision and appraisal from the Occupational Therapist and be expected to take an active role in your continuous personal development.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the Therapy team to undertake specific clinical and administrative tasks, implement intervention programmes as instructed and delegated by the OT, responding flexibly to the needs of the service.

Support the OT staff by assisting with all modalities of therapeutic care.

To provide care to the patients, as delegated by the OT's, to the extent of their competencies.

Participate in project work, audits and provision of relevant statistics which may be for the benefit of patients or the OT department.

Monitor stocks of equipment and ensure appropriate supplies are ordered.

To promote independence, health and well-being and safety in hospital, home or community settings.

Develop a patient centred approach to engaging patients in specific therapeutic interventions following the aims/methods given by the Therapist and to adjust own clinical interventions based on the fluctuating needs of the person.
