Title: Support Services Officer
Responsible to: Director of Information & Support
Hours: 34 hours per week, with some flexibility
Location: Hybrid post requiring work in Glasgow office, home base and regular travel

Overview
You will be working in the department dealing directly with people affected by lung cancer. The post holder will work as part of the Information & Support service to develop engagement with people affected by lung cancer in our service, campaigning, research and policy functions. You will be involved in raising awareness of service activity and linking people with lung cancer to relevant services. You will be responsible for running and delivering a programme of Information Day events across the UK. This post holder will work closely with people affected by lung cancer as well as Health Care Professionals and build effective relationships to secure their support for the charity. The post holder will be required to work in collaboration with a range of teams to communicate and engage people. You will be part of the Information & Support team based in Glasgow, and working remotely across the UK. The nature of the post will involve regular contact with people with lung cancer and those caring for them.
Key Responsibilities
* Co-ordinate Information Days for patients and carers
* Work with services staff and Lung Cancer Nurses to run regular programme of events reaching people affected by lung cancer
* Respond to referrals of new service users and encourage engagement in advocacy roles
* Carry out regular contact with existing support groups and respond to enquiries from potential new group facilitators/ locations
* Maintain accurate records of service contacts, maintain (Raisers Edge) database
* Complete evaluation for Information Days and other areas of work
* Work with LCISS team to identify unmet needs and how services can respond
* Engage with volunteers involved in offering advocacy and support contacts
Person Specification
Key Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
* Ability to offer person centred support to vulnerable people
* Proven skills in team working, ability to work co-operatively, flexibly and effectively
* Understanding of how to monitor and evaluate service activity
* Skills in organising and promoting events for service users
* Ability to plan and manage workload
* Ability to produce and edit information in print, digital formats that meet needs of target audience/ market
* Ability to maintain accurate records of service contact using databases, excel sheets and other IT packages
* Skill in communicating effectively verbally and in writing
* Non-judgemental and confidential approach to people affected by lung cancer
Key Technical Knowledge and Experience
* Ability to plan and deliver service events
* Experience of supporting clients and cultivating professional relationships
* Awareness of good practice in confidentiality
* Experience of delivering support and care to people with cancer or other long term health issues
* Knowledge of developing effective communication with a range of stakeholder groups
* Confidence in using a range of Microsoft Office packages including word, excel, power point as well as propriety data bases
* Understanding of NHS structures and experience of working in partnership

About the team
The Information & Support team is based in Glasgow and Liverpool and offers a range of services to people affected by lung cancer across the UK. The team works closely with our Research, Finance, Income generation and Marketing teams.
Our main activities include: distributing information designed to help people with lung cancer; running an ask the nurse service offering support and advice to people affected by lung cancer; supporting people affected by lung cancer virtually via our Lung Cancer Connect service, and/or face to face via our Support Group network and Information Days; promoting awareness of signs and symptoms and the benefit of early diagnosis of lung cancer.
