We're on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.

We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!

Your role:

You will provide skilled commissioning support to our social work teams, bringing experience of the provider market and the ability to design personalised packages of care that maybe specialist in nature or commands an enhanced rate due to the complexities of the person supported. You will work in a financially conscious way, negotiating on an individual basis using the principles of open book accounting to secure services which are high quality, affordable and sustainable.

You will develop positive relationships with providers who demonstrate Wigan’s values, attitudes and behaviours and have an absolute commitment to delivering the best support to ensure we develop capacity within the local specialist care market and enable the growth of innovative services that meet the demands of more complex support needs.

About you:
You will be passionate about ensuring that people receive the best quality accommodation and support.

You will be able to negotiate the best quality, affordable services which are underpinned by transparent pricing structures whilst establishing positive relationships with providers through an asset focussed, least restrictive approach, maximising independence and the ongoing shaping of the package of support.

You will demonstrate an ability to work with and shape services within the provider market, with a track record of effective service development, and delivery in relevant areas of work.

You will demonstrate a high level of understanding of the Council’s obligations under the Care Act and be confident in articulating an individual’s needs and expressing social work assessments clearly and persuasively.

About us:

Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.

We are a small, dynamic team within the wider Provider Management and Market Development service, committed to the co-design and delivery of excellent services for Wigan residents. We are proud of our ability to drive innovation and lead ambitious service redesign and improvement programmes.

We are passionate about representing the voice of customers and local people in all of our work and work hard to develop mature, collaborative relationships with providers to achieve great outcomes for Wigan residents.

We offer an environment which welcomes people with drive, enthusiasm, and a proactive approach to doing the ‘right thing’, ensuring that people are supported through services which are genuinely enabling people to fulfil their potential and live happy lives.

Here at Wigan, we are proud to support flexible working patterns, when the service can accommodate this. We also take a blended approach to where we work, depending on the work we do. This may include working from home, the office, or the community. We like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits click here to find out more about working for #TeamWigan.
