Overview
The Childrens Trust is seeking a Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our Rehabilitation Therapy Team. The successful candidate will provide a high quality, evidence based occupational therapy service, promoting participation and functional activity for children and young people accessing our neurorehabilitation services. The service delivers outcome-focused interventions, safe care, function and participation across home, school and community life. You will deliver child and family focused, goal-led interventions at a specialist level within a multidisciplinary and multi-agency setting.

Responsibilities
* Provide high quality, evidence based occupational therapy provision for children and young people, in partnership with other members of the multi-disciplinary team and education services.
* Undertake specialist occupational therapy assessments of children with a range of needs including highly complex needs.
* Develop therapy goals, in collaboration with the child and family/carers, as well as the MDT, to maximise recovery and facilitate participation in daily life.
* Devise and carry out therapeutic interventions that are developmentally appropriate, goal directed, and occupation centred both in terms of means and outcome.
* Use observational and standardised outcome measures to monitor and evaluate each child’s progress and adjust intervention/programmes as necessary.
* Contribute to the assessment of the child/young person’s upper limb and support provision of interventions to maintain or improve upper limb range and function where possible.
* Assess and advise on specialist equipment; liaise with social services and relevant others on provision (loaned equipment for use at The Childrens Trust or recommendations for long-term use on return home).
* Assess, evaluate, and recommend discharge/transition plans within the multidisciplinary team framework.
* Contribute to child related reports (including looked after children and annual review reports) and assist with collation in a timely manner in line with organisational targets.
* Contribute to child related meetings, MDT meetings and liaison with external agencies as appropriate; maintain accurate intervention records in line with policy and legal requirements.
* Work flexibly in terms of hours, including occasional early evenings and one weekend day per calendar month.
* Undertake other duties within your skills and abilities as required by the organisation.

* Contribute to child related reports and attend meetings with parents, MDTs and external agencies where appropriate; keep records in line with policy and legal requirements.
* Maintain professional and timely documentation; work with flexible hours as required.
* Engage in communication with children/young people and families; attend MDT meetings and ensure confidential handling of documents.
* Provide supervision and support for junior team members and students; participate in Performance Development Reviews and monthly supervision as required.

* Meet HCPC and Royal College of Occupational Therapists standards; maintain HCPC registration and adhere to The Childrens Trust policies.
* Read and implement all policies, procedures and risk assessments; participate in clinical governance activities and clinical audits; continuously seek service improvement.
* Undertake risk assessments and ensure documentation is completed in the required format; participate in risk assessment training as required.
* Adhere to Health and Safety guidelines and complete mandatory manual handling training; promote health and safety for others and manage risks within the work environment.
* Demonstrate wellbeing and emotional resilience; maintain organisation and respond to feedback constructively.
Career Long Learning, Education and Research
* Undertake mandatory training; pursue continuing professional development and participate in in-service training and service development projects.
* Prepare for Performance Development Reviews and identify learning objectives and development opportunities.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential:
* Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC registration
* Member of British Association of Occupational Therapists
* Maintains a portfolio of CPD in line with regulatory body standards
* Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience
* Experience of working with children/young people and/or acquired brain injury; experience in a multi-disciplinary team; experience of working with families
Desirable:
* Paediatric experience with developmental conditions; postural management including wheelchairs and upper limb interventions
* Experience with complex communication needs
