Disabilities and the wider Learning Disabilities Team, you will act as a visible clinical expert, advisor and advocate, championing reasonable adjustments, reducing health inequalities, and ensuring our services meet national best practice standards.
You will support patients, families, carers and clinical teams through direct care, advice, education, training, and system improvement. Whilst this post will be based at Newham Hospital you will be required to work across Barts Health that will allow you to build strong partnerships with colleagues in acute, community, social care, and voluntary services. You will also contribute to local and national learning and innovation through active engagement in different improvement initiatives such as the LeDeR programme and the NHS England Learning Disability Improvement Standards.
Main duties of the job
To deliver equitable, safe, high quality services for a patients with a learning disability and autism using Barts Health Services
To deliver on-going expert clinical input for complex patients with learning disabilities (LD) and autism across all sites and all departments within Barts Health
To offer clinical teams in all settings across all sites, expert advice, support and education to make personalised reasonable adjustments and promote use of Hospital passport
To plan, organise and co-ordinate the admission and discharge process for complex patients
Deliver training to all grades and backgrounds of staff to support awareness of the needs of patients with a learning disability and autism
Work with patient advocacy groups in the community, family and carer groups, to illicit on-going feedback for improvement of hospital services in the care and treatment of people with learning disabilities and autism
To lead on regular audit, and quality improvement initiatives. Conduct research with multi disciplinary colleagues

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Registered Nurse Learning Disability (RNLD) Registered Adult Nurse or Registered Mental Health Nurse.
2. Relevant Degree, or equivalent or working towards
Desirable criteria
3. Post registration course (s) in physical health care
4. Relevant qualification in teaching and assessing
Experience
Essential criteria
5. Post registration experience in working with people with learning disabilities and autism
6. Previous relevant acute hospital experience
7. Supervision of others
8. Multidisciplinary and multi-agency working
9. Teaching a diverse range of groups
Knowledge
Essential criteria
10. Demonstrate clear understanding of the role of CNS within Learning Disability Field of Nursing within an acute hospital setting
11. Evidence of keeping professionally updated
12. Up to date knowledge and experience regarding national/local guidelines, and in particular relating to area of speciality with expertise in the application of the Mental Capacity Act, Equalities Act. LeDer programme
13. Expert understanding and application of Safeguarding procedures related to area of speciality
14. Understanding of clinical governance and risk management and application in practice
