You will join a highly successful, leading Agriculture and Estates team who are experiencing substantial growth, necessitating additional resources to advance ambitious future plans.
The Agriculture and Estates team in Sevenoaks is led by Annabelle Rout, with Chris Coupland as the overall Team Leader. They, along with other team members, will guide and support you throughout your career at Birketts LLP. The team's expertise encompasses various rural issues including:
* Sales and acquisitions of agricultural property and land (including options, overages, and pre-emption agreements);
* Sporting and fishing rights;
* Banking and re-financing agricultural properties;
* Residential conveyancing and tenancy advice for farming and estate clients;
* Business structures and joint venture/collaborative agreements;
* Diversification issues;
* Succession planning;
* Collaboration with Private Client and tax teams on:
* Wills, trust planning, and probate matters;
* Tax advice related to IHT, SDLT, BADR, CGT, and VAT;
* Renewable Energy and Natural Capital Schemes;
* Basic payment scheme, agri-environment, and ELMS scheme issues.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Drafting, negotiating, and finalizing documentation for property sales and purchases, deeds of easement, and other property-related documents;
* Managing smaller transactions independently and collaborating with team members on larger deals;
* Attending meetings with clients and other law firms;
* Participating in business development events.

* Sporting and fishing rights;
* Banking and re-financing agricultural properties;
* Residential conveyancing and tenancy advice for farming and estate clients;
* Business structures and joint venture/collaborative agreements;
* Diversification issues;
* Succession planning;
* Collaboration with Private Client and tax teams on:
* Wills, trust planning, and probate matters;
* Tax advice related to IHT, SDLT, BADR, CGT, and VAT;
* Renewable Energy and Natural Capital Schemes;
* Basic payment scheme, agri-environment, and ELMS scheme issues.
Your work will involve:
* Drafting, negotiating, and agreeing on documentation for property transactions and related legal documents;
* Handling smaller transactions independently and collaborating on larger transactions;
* Attending meetings with clients and law firms;
* Participating in business development activities.
The ideal candidate is an ambitious, driven, and forward-thinking Associate with 3+ years PQE, passionate about rural matters and interested in Agricultural law, seeking to join our growing team on a full-time, permanent basis.
You should demonstrate meticulous attention to detail to produce high-quality work and documentation consistently. Flexibility in work approach is essential to meet client deadlines, with regular communication with clients, and an interest in business development.
Prior experience in Agricultural law is not mandatory, but a genuine interest in becoming a specialist in this field is required. Candidates with strong experience in Private Client or Property, with a desire to specialize in Agriculture and Estates, are highly encouraged to apply.
