Children's Asthma and Allergy Nurse Specialist

We're delighted to advertise this full time post, for an experienced Children's Nurse who is passionate about children's Asthma and Allergy, to join our Specialist Nursing Team.
You'll be joining a proactive and forward thinking MDT, of two band 7 Advanced Nurse Specialists, Consultants, Research Nurses and link nurses, who are committed to improving care and outcomes for children who have Asthma and/or Allergy.
Main duties of the job
This is a varied role. It involves:
* Delivering nurse led clinics to optimise treatment
* Supporting nurse led oral food challenges under the supervision of Advanced Nurse Specialists Performing skin prick testing and other diagnostics
* Developing care plans and delivering patient education
* There will be a significant focus on upskilling staff across the system, including urgent care, ED and wards, in providing evidence based care to children with Asthma and Allergy, and monitoring performance, through audit.
There are opportunities for professional networking and further study, and it is an expectation that the successful candidate will be highly active in CPD, including undertaking level 7 study in Asthma and Allergy, to ensure they are a credible and current source of expertise. The post holder will also participate in research and audit, with the aim of continually improving outcomes for children.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

This is a Trustwide role. You will be expected to work across trust sites.
Person Specification
Experience
* Recent experience in paediatric asthma management
* Recent experience in paediatric allergy management
* Experience delivering education sessions for a variety of audiences
* Experience of participating in oral food challenges
* Experience of participating in audit
Special Skills & Knowledge
* Understanding of roles and responsibilities in relation to safeguarding children and able to apply this to practice
* Able to work independently
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Able to communicate complex sensitive, confidential information concerning patients/clients displaying empathy persuasion and reassurance
* Ability to work to deadlines and prioritise competing demands
* Ability to develop and deliver training programmes to a wide range of audiences
* Able to develop and implement programmes of care
* Able to apply research to ensure evidence based practice
* Ability to conduct and analyse information from Clinical audit
* Understanding of healthcare inequalities
* Competent in FeNO
* Competent in spirometry
* Competent in venepuncture
Qualifications
* Professional knowledge acquired through degree or equivalent level of demonstrable professional knowledge/experience
* Supplemented by diploma level specialist training, experience, short courses
* Meets NMC requirements for mentorship
* Independent prescriber
* Post registration study in Asthma/Allergy

* Able to meet all travel requirements of this post
