Mechanical Craft Operative

We have a fantastic opportunity for you to assist our hospitals as a Mechanical Craftsperson, supporting our busy Estates team. You will be assisting with a wide range of planned preventative maintenance and reactive calls.
To work as a part of the wider Estates team to achieve site-wide engineering compliance, maintaining all building systems and achieving the wider strategic aims as set out by the site Head of Estates.

Main duties of the job
To maintain and repair a wide range of Plumbing, Mechanical, and Plant Equipment and Services.
Deal with major incidents such as large water leaks, ingress of rainwater, and blocked drainage in critical areas.
Unblock drains, roof gullies, guttering downpipes, lavatory pans, urinals, macerators, basin wastes, and waste disposal machines.
Carry out plumbing and mechanical pipework installations, including baths, showers, and basins.
Attend to and resolve issues related to loss of heating/cooling, hot and cold water services, and medical gases to critical areas.
Assist in motivating, training, and developing apprentices within the scheme.

Job responsibilities
Carrying out planned preventative maintenance, new work, and repair of Plumbing/Mechanical Plant & Equipment:
* Plumbing, including showers, baths, basins, sinks, lavatories, macerators, waste disposals, etc.
* Low Temperature Hot Water Plant
* Heating & Ventilation Systems
* Air-conditioning Systems
* Calorifiers and Hot Water Systems
* Carry out plumbing/fitting installations and alterations
* Medical Equipment
* Medical Gas plant and Equipment
* Environmental Computer-controlled systems
Assist the Development Team in the implementation of major service shutdowns, commissioning arrangements for new developments, and handover procedures for engineering systems.
Require complex fault diagnosis skills, interpreting technical issues, and formulating technical solutions to improve performance and maintain the service.
Person Specification
Experience and Qualification
* Completed and passed a formal apprenticeship (City & Guilds or NVQ level 3)
* Previous experience as Maintenance Craftsman
Skills
* Provide and receive routine information to inform work colleagues, patients, and clients; provide and receive complex or sensitive information
* Communicate technical issues to maintenance staff; explain technical issues to other staff and patients
* Evidence of undertaking own development to improve understanding of equalities issues
