This exciting, high growth leading self-storage operator are looking to hire an experienced, passionate Management Accountant. They offer secure, flexible, convenient storage solutions to individuals and businesses, helping them store their belongings and manage their space effectively.
* The company has experienced strong growth, opening 7 new sites since 2020 and developing a fully digitalized and remote onboarding process.
* Currently the business has 28 sites with a growth plan for 60 sites.
* Investment in tech means their operating model is unique in the UK market and allows for fast scalability and operational efficiencies as well as attractive customer proposition.
* The business was acquired in June 2023 with a strong focus on growth in the UK as well as having a strong presence across Europe now.
This role supports the Financial Controller by delivering high-quality management accounting, reporting, and financial insight across the business. The position plays a key role in producing accurate monthly management accounts, weekly financial and operational performance dashboards, and robust cashflow reporting, while maintaining strong financial controls and supporting audit readiness.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with strong reporting skills, a commercial mindset, a proactive and detail oriented attitude, with the confidence and ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders in a fast-moving environment.
Key Responsibilities
Management Reporting & Performance Insight
• Prepare monthly management accounts including P&L, balance sheet, cashflow, and variance
analysis with clear and concise explanations of the key drivers.
• Produce weekly dashboards covering occupancy, rates, revenue, and operational KPIs.
• Support the preparation of board packs by delivering accurate, timely, and well-explained financial
data.
• Provide commentary and insight to explain movements, trends, and risks across the business.
• Management accounting and reporting outputs.
• Commercial insights including translating operational metrics into financial impact, articulate
pricing, churn, retention analysis, and identifying EBITDA improvement opportunities.
Financial Control & Process Support
• Maintain accounting reconciliations and supporting schedules to ensure clean and timely month end close.
• Support the maintenance and documentation of finance policies, processes, and internal controls.
• Assist with approval controls, payment authorisation workflows, and A/P timing oversight.
• Support audit readiness and liaise with external advisors where required under FC direction.
• Supports, the Financial Controller’s leadership and accountability.
• Continuous improvement of control environment and processes as the business grows.
Cashflow, Working Capital Support
• Assist in the preparation and maintenance of a rolling cashflow forecast.
• Support weekly cash reporting, liquidity monitoring, and working capital analysis.
• Assist with debtor management, DSO reporting, and auction or recovery tracking.
• Provide analysis to support minimum liquidity and cash discipline requirements.
Business Partnering & Operational Support
• Work with Operations and Facilities teams to validate inputs impacting financial performance.
• Support internal reporting requirements across teams and sites.
• Provide data and analysis to support decision-making by senior leadership.
• Act as a reliable point of continuity within the finance function.
• Assist with budgets and forecasts
Skills & Experience
• Qualified accountant (e.g. CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent)
• Relevant experience in a finance or management accounting role
• Proven ability to deliver accurate reporting to tight deadlines.
• Strong Excel and financial systems capability.
• Commercial mindset
• Ability to explain numbers clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
Comfortable operating in a growing, evolving finance function.
