Role Overview
Rare opportunity to co-found a company with huge commercial potential and ability to make meaningful impact on greenhouse-gas emissions. Joining first as Commercial Advisor, you will refine and shape the commercialisation plans for a lab-proven new technology for sealing oil and gas wells already attracting interest from industry collaborators.Successful execution will see you raise investment in 2026, alongside the project lead, as full-time Commercial Co-founder of an exciting new venture.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the spinout process, including commercial strategy, governance, licensing, and company formation.
* Refine and execute the go-to-market plan, including customer segmentation, sales strategy, and channel development.
* Own and deliver an investor-ready business plan, financial forecasts, and compelling pitch materials.
* Engage and secure funding targeting a £1.5M seed round, with support from existing investor contacts.
* Secure commercial partnerships with well operators, service companies, and supply chain partners for pilot execution and scale-up.
* Develop and validate pricing and value propositions, working closely with partners in Canada, the UK, Norway, and the US.
* Manage stakeholder relationships.
* Contribute to team building, recruitment of the first sales/commercial hire, and formation of the board.
Expertise required
* Experience developing and executing go-to-market strategies in B2B industrial or engineering-led sectors.
* Demonstrated success in raising early-stage investment (angel, seed, venture), ideally in deep tech or hardware.
* Entrepreneurial mindset with a hands-on approach and the ambition to lead a venture from pre-revenue to scale.
* Evidence-based mindset, with track-record of sourcing and analysing wide range of credible industry feedback to shape commercial and project direction.
Desirable
* Proven track record in a commercial or C-suite leadership role within an energy, oil & gas, or clean tech start-up.
* Experience in scaling up manufacturing/supply chain of chemical or materials-based technologies.
* Familiarity with well services, subsurface engineering, or downhole chemical technologies.
* Strong industry network in energy, O&G, decommissioning, or CCUS sectors.
* Knowledge of well plugging and abandonment (P&A).
* Contacts in the UK, Norwegian, Canadian, or US oil & gas sectors.
Timeline & Commitment
* Start date: August 2025
* Engagement: initially 2 days per week for 6 months on a consultancy basis.
* Location: Edinburgh, Scotland (hybrid)
* Intended Outcome: the candidate will join the company as a commercial co-founder upon completion of spinout and successful investment close in late 2026.
