We are seeking a full time, permanent, Team Manager who has experience and knowledge of Private Fostering and Special Guardianship arrangements, delivering high-quality, child-centred practice that achieves the best outcomes for children and foster carers.

This service area is focused on supporting vulnerable children and young people to remain safely within their families wherever possible. It brings together Special Guardianship (SGO) Support and Private Fostering, delivering high-quality, child-centred support to kinship carers and ensuring strong safeguarding for privately fostered children.

The team works at pace to provide timely assessments, practical support, and targeted interventions that promote stability and positive outcomes. With a strong emphasis on partnership working, the service collaborates closely with internal teams and external agencies to deliver joined-up, effective support.

Driven by high standards, the area is committed to continuous improvement, robust quality assurance, and compliance with statutory responsibilities—ensuring children’s voices remain at the heart of all decision-making. We have been rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted, following a 2025 inspection. This is a fantastic achievement for Birmingham Children's Trust, with many positive highlights focusing on areas including the quality of staff leadership, partnership working, safeguarding and corporate parenting.

About the role

The team works with families where they have either a Special Guardianship Order or Child Arrangement Order in place. The team are also responsible for completing and supporting Private Fostering assessment and arrangements.

You will provide day-to-day operational leadership to a team of social workers and senior practitioners, ensuring services are effective, compliant with statutory requirements, and aligned with best practice standards. You will drive performance, support staff development, and embed a positive, accountable culture focused on continuous improvement.

Working closely with senior leaders and partner agencies, you will contribute to service development, ensure inspection readiness, and promote innovative approaches to fostering. You will also play a key role in supporting and retaining foster carers, ensuring their needs—and the voices of children—remain central to service delivery.
