Role: Site Lead Pharmacist
The Site Lead Pharmacist is the most senior pharmacist on site, leading, delivering, developing, managing, and evaluating the clinical pharmacy services to Southampton hospital, UTC, and affiliated departments. This role is accountable for governance, quality, and workforce objectives, ensuring alignment with the national medicines optimisation strategy.
The focus is on providing high-quality, safe, comprehensive (clinical, supply, financial, and operational) pharmaceutical services, in accordance with the priorities set by the Site Senior Management and National Director of Pharmacy. The Site Lead Pharmacist acts as a role model, aligning with corporate objectives, the group medicines optimisation agenda, and national professional standards for hospital pharmacy.
This position is ideal for someone looking to extend their clinical leadership with a specialist interest and experience in elective care and specialist medicines. Support will be provided to continue and further develop your clinical pharmacy practice based on your previous experience and interests.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead, coordinate, and monitor the delivery of an exemplary, patient-focused pharmacy service in accordance with legislation, professional standards, and clinical requirements.
2. Support strategic planning and infrastructure development for high-quality, patient-centered clinical pharmacy services.
3. Establish and maintain robust clinical governance arrangements, including risk management, guidelines, policies, and audits.
4. Manage daily pharmacy services, ensuring efficient ward and dispensary coverage, and clarity of staff roles and responsibilities.
5. Act as a role model and the site’s most senior pharmacist, providing advice and support to clinicians and patients for safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medicines use.
6. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver efficient, high-quality healthcare services.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Current registration as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
* Master's degree in Pharmacy or equivalent.
* Postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or equivalent.
* Independent prescribing qualification or willingness to obtain one.
* Extensive experience in secondary or primary care at a senior level within clinical pharmacy services.
* Strong people management skills, including supervision, training, appraisal, and workforce development.
* Experience in managing pharmacy services, including service development, KPI reporting, and assurance.
* Right to work in the UK.
Compensation and Benefits:
* Salary circa £65,000, based on experience.
