This role requires a blend of hands-on technical leadership and strategic vision to push the boundaries of what our platform can do. You will collaborate closely with Product Managers, Product Designers, and other key stakeholders to define the product roadmap, set technical direction, and ensure your team delivers a high-quality, scalable engine that powers growth for our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead, mentor, and support a high-performing team of software engineers. Empower them to grow their skills and careers through regular 1:1s, clear feedback and training.
2. Foster an inclusive and collaborative team culture where everyone feels heard, can do their best work, and the best ideas thrive.
3. Partner with your product and design colleagues to scope, prioritise, and manage the delivery of a roadmap of features, improvements, and bug fixes for our products, ensuring your team contributes effectively without becoming a bottleneck.
4. Drive technical excellence within the team by guiding architectural decisions, championing best practices, and staying up-to-date on live site reliability efforts. You will act as an arbitrator for complex technical debates.
5. Represent the team and its technology in technical and project meetings. Clearly communicate team progress, project status, and resource needs to upper management. Work closely with Product Managers to manage internal and external communications.
6. Lead the charge in recruiting new talent to the team and ensure a successful onboarding experience for new hires.
7. Champion modern engineering practices, including agile methodologies, CI/CD, and a focus on platform performance and monitoring.
Essential Criteria:
8. Demonstrated experience in an engineering leadership role, with a track record of successfully managing projects and formally mentoring engineers.
9. A genuine passion for helping people develop in their careers.
10. A deep commitment to building an inclusive and psychologically safe team environment.
11. Strong software engineering background, with a deep understanding of industry best practices for architecting, building, and maintaining large-scale applications.
12. You are passionate about user experience and product quality, with a keen eye for detail.
13. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable working with engineers of different levels and communicating with senior management.
14. Ability to troubleshoot, research, and work through complex problems, both technical and organisational..

15. Direct experience managing a team of software engineers.
16. Familiarity with leveraging AI/ML technologies, including LLMs, to build innovative product features.
17. Experience in working with modern CI/CD and engineering tooling – we leverage Amazon Web Services (AWS), GitHub Actions and Terraform extensively.
18. Experience with microservice-oriented architectures.
19. Experience with agile methodologies.
20. Experience with Typescript.
