Job summary
The post holder carries continuing responsibility throughout the 24 hours period for the assessment and delivery of care needs, resource management of the Emergency Department Paediatric Area including budgets, capacity and patient pathways. This post also carries continuing responsibility for the management of the department team, including deployment of nursing staff and teaching of students. They will be expected to provide professional leadership outside the department by actively contributing to Directorate and Trust wide nursing projects.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Essential
1. Registered Paediatric Nurse on the NMC register
2. Recognised mentorship course
3. Committed to and evidence of CPD
4. Computer Literacy
5. APLS or EPALS
6. Competent clinical skills: cannulation, phlebotomy, POP, IV additives etc.
KNOWLEDGE
Essential
7. Knowledge of Paediatric ED environment and working practices
8. Current evidence-based practice
9. Knowledge of national quality indicators
10. In depth knowledge of safeguarding at level 4
11. In depth knowledge of confidentiality
EXPERIENCE
Essential
12. Sufficient experience within paediatric ED at Band 6
13. Evidence of dealing with difficult situations
14. People management experience in an acute setting
15. Managerial and leadership skills
16. Ability to manage change at ward level/dept. level
17. Demonstrable excellent communication and interpersonal skills
18. Demonstrable ability to prioritise own workload, and that of other people
19. Committed to developing role as SSR / CN
