Overview

Positive Behaviour Support Clinical Specialist - Hesley Group. We are looking for a compassionate professional who is committed to understanding people’s needs and using evidence-based practice to help people flourish. This role supports the delivery of high quality, person-centred support to improve the quality of life of adults with learning disabilities. You will be a key part of the multi-disciplinary team within services and will be part of our Therapeutic Services team, comprising Applied Psychology, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy.

This role is within two of our small residential homes, based in Thorne (South Yorkshire) and Scunthorpe (Lincolnshire). Travel to other Hesley Group services will be required for team meetings and based on service needs. This is a full-time role (part-time will be considered).


Main duties of the job

* Enthusiasm for engaging autistic individuals and people with intellectual disabilities in planning their own futures.
* Extensive experience in working with autistic individuals and people with intellectual disabilities.
* Extensive experience in collaborative approaches to working with behaviours of concern and reducing restrictive practices.
* MSc in PBS/ABA or equivalent, with an in-depth understanding of the principles and application of PBS.
* Extensive experience of carrying out behavioural and skills assessment and interventions, and in implementing PBS in MDT settings.
* Extensive experience in coaching, training and supporting staff; experience of providing supervision and supporting service development.

Job Title: Positive Behaviour Support Clinical Specialist

Service: Central Services

Responsible to: Consultant Clinical Psychologist / Applied Psychology Lead

Brief description of core values: As a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Clinical Specialist you will take a compassionate approach to working with people, committed to understanding people’s needs and using evidence-based practice to help people to flourish.

Key responsibilities (summary): Work within the PBS framework as part of a multi-disciplinary team to understand people’s needs holistically across residential, educational and vocational settings. Collaborate with colleagues to ensure services have the knowledge and skills to deliver high quality support environments. Support people to identify and achieve their goals, supervise others, and contribute to PBS service initiatives.

Key Result areas: Clinical, Training and supervision, Research and service evaluation, Information technology, General duties, and Health & Safety compliance as described below.

Clinical: conduct descriptive functional behavioural assessments; develop and implement multi-component holistic behavioural interventions; communicate with professionals; chair meetings; produce reports; participate in pre-admission assessments and transition planning; provide specialist advice and coaching; manage complex information related to behaviours of concern; monitor progress through data collection.

Training and supervision: participate in regular supervision and appraisal; maintain current developments in PBS; maintain knowledge of relevant legislation; reduce restrictive practices; develop skills through training; provide supervision for staff implementing PBS interventions.

Research and service evaluation: implement evidence-based practice; undertake and supervise research activities; contribute to organisation-wide initiatives and evaluation.

Information technology: use IT systems to facilitate communication; data entry and analysis in Excel; record assessment and intervention information; develop and deliver training materials in PowerPoint.

General: maintain professional registration where appropriate.

Person Specification


Qualifications


Essential

* Masters level qualification in ABA/PBS or equivalent
* Registered BCBA or UK-BCaBA (cert) or UK-BA
* Registered member with UK Society of Behaviour Analysis (UK-SBA)
* Evidence of continuous professional development
* Training in clinical supervision
* Training in management or leadership


Experience


Essential

* Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively with key people
* Advanced skills in collecting and analysing complex data and communicating this effectively
* Advanced skill in carrying out functional behavioural assessment
* Advanced skills in designing and implementing holistic multi-component behavioural interventions
* Skilled in communicating information to a broad range of people in a sensitive, appropriate manner
* Advanced skills in coaching and motivating others to implement interventions
* Ability to identify and contribute to improvements in the quality of the service
* Skilled in leading PBS initiatives
* Ability to develop lead specialism in area of interest
* Research and/or clinical audit skills
* Ability to self-evaluate and reflect in practice
* Ability to disseminate practice via conferences or forums
* Experience of working within a PBS-informed service and in a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience delivering PBS training to groups
* Experience coaching and mentoring key people, including staff and service managers
* Experience supervising others and leading service-wide initiatives
* Leadership and management experience
* Active involvement with specialist interest groups
