Contract Role
We are supporting a global financial services organisation looking for an experienced OpenShift Infrastructure Engineer specialising in Data Protection to join their platform engineering team.
This role focuses on protecting virtual machines running on OpenShift Virtualization (KubeVirt) and containerised applications using NetBackup Kubernetes Operator, bridging traditional backup infrastructure with modern cloud-native storage management.
You will play a key role in ensuring data resilience, security, and recovery across containerised and virtualised environments.
Key Responsibilities
* Deploy and configure NetBackup Kubernetes Operator using Helm charts within Red Hat OpenShift clusters
* Implement data protection strategies for OpenShift Virtualization VMs and persistent volumes
* Create automated backup policies for namespace discovery and protection
* Design and implement backup and recovery strategies for Kubernetes applications and hybrid workloads
* Monitor backup jobs, troubleshoot failures, and perform restore operations
* Configure NetBackup Elastic Data Mover Pods to move snapshot backups to off-cluster storage or cloud environments
* Implement immutable storage and ransomware‑resilient backup strategies
* Manage RBAC access controls and ensure security compliance
* Troubleshoot backup and restore failures within OpenShift Container Platform (OCP)
* Manage OpenShift components including namespaces, storage (PVC/PV), and networking
Required Skills & Experience
* Strong expertise in Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (OCP)
* Deep understanding of Kubernetes constructs and Operators (KubeVirt / OpenShift CNV)
* Proven experience with Veritas NetBackup (10.x) in Kubernetes environments
* Experience with Commvault platform including Metallic AI and Kubernetes protection solutions
* Strong knowledge of Container Storage Interface (CSI), PVs and PVCs
* Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments across AWS, Azure or GCP
* Linux administration and automation experience using RHEL, Python or shell scripting
Nice to Have
* Experience with OADP (OpenShift APIs for Data Protection) or Velero
* Knowledge of NetBackup Flex Appliance
* Familiarity with Red Hat Advanced Cluster Security or container security tooling
