Specialist Teaching Assistant – SEN Support (Primary)

Our welcoming mainstream primary schools in the Durham NE1 area are seeking a Specialist Teaching Assistant to provide focused support to pupils with SEN, helping them to thrive both academically and emotionally.

What You’ll Be Doing:
* Providing 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with a range of special educational needs
* Adapting activities and resources to meet individual learning needs
* Helping pupils regulate emotions, build confidence and develop independence
* Working closely with class teachers and SENCOs to implement personalised learning plans
* Supporting pupils with communication, social skills and sensory needs
* Creating a calm, nurturing environment where children feel safe and encouraged
* Helping pupils engage positively with classroom routines and expectations

What We’re Looking For:
You’ll thrive in this role if you:
* Have recent experience supporting children with SEN (autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech & language needs, or learning difficulties)
* Are confident working within a mainstream primary classroom
* Bring a patient, empathetic and resilient approach
* Are able to adapt strategies to suit different learning styles
* Communicate clearly and compassionately with pupils, staff and families
* Hold (or are willing to obtain) an enhanced DBS
* Are available to start as soon as possible
Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2/3 TA certificate, SEN training or Team Teach are desirable but not essential for the right person.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
