Your new company You will be working for a well-established manufacturing organisation based in Birmingham. This role will be an interim position while permanent recruitment processes are underway. This role requires an immediate start. Your new role Within your role of Assistant Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the finance team with day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy of financial records. You will be responsible for preparing and posting journal entries in line with accounting standards, as well as carrying out reconciliations across bank, supplier, customer, and balance sheet accounts. You will support the production of weekly and monthly cash flow reports, contributing to data collection, analysis, and reporting. The role also involves assisting with the preparation of management accounts, including profit and loss reporting, variance analysis, and providing meaningful commentary. Alongside core accounting duties, you will contribute to forecasting and budgeting processes, including the annual overhead budget, and play an important part in month-end activities. You will also help prepare audit documentation, support internal controls, and collaborate with stakeholders across the business to resolve discrepancies and improve processes. This is a varied role where you will get involved in ad hoc finance projects, support wider team activities, and produce accurate financial information to tight deadlines. What you'll need to succeed To succeed in this role, you will have prior experience in an account or finance assistant position, with a solid understanding of core accounting principles. You will be confident in preparing journal entries, reconciling control accounts, and working towards trial balance with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong organisational and time management skills are essential, as you will be managing multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment. You will be comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative finance team, with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues across different departments. You will ideally hold, or be working towards, a relevant accounting qualification such as AAT or IATI (though this is not essential). A proactive mindset, professionalism, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work are key, alongside a willingness to learn and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function.
