Job Overview
The post holder will be responsible for Older Persons Services covering GP surgeries in the North Denbighshire area. The role will provide CPA reviews and ward rounds for inpatients, run outpatient clinics, and give medical input to the memory service. The post also handles organic referrals for the catchment area. Where required, the post holder will work with adult consultant psychiatrists for patients aged 65 and older who meet criteria for complex needs. The post holder must comply with the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010 and may, when available, attract a junior doctor. Responsibilities under the Mental Health Act 1983 as a section 12/2 approved doctor and under the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010 are also involved.
Main duties of the job
* Provide specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment and management for people with cognitive impairment (including Young Onset Dementias) and those over 70 with functional illnesses, facilitating transition arrangements for a specialist Older Persons Mental Health Service.
* Work within the legislative arrangements of the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010, providing medical leadership to the CMHTE and consulting with Primary Mental Health Services for the elderly.
* Care‑coordinate a limited number of personal cases, developing Care and Treatment Plans.
* Act as Consultant and Responsible Clinician for patients admitted to Bryn Hesketh and Tegid Ward, giving Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act opinions.
* Provide reports and consultation services to support the Health Board in commissioning long‑term health care for the catchment area.

Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable criteria
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Welsh AC Approval.
Eligibility
Essential criteria
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completing CCT.
* Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
Desirable criteria
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
Clinical Skills
Essential criteria
* Evidence of training in the core and specialist competencies for community psychiatry.
Desirable criteria
* Experience in leading a multi‑disciplinary team.
Teaching and Training
Essential Criteria
* Evidence of having delivered postgraduate teaching.
* Evidence of having delivered multidisciplinary teaching.
Desirable criteria
* Experience of teaching medical students.
