Our incredible Chief People Officer is now leaving us, and we’re now looking for someone who can build on her foundation to maintain our focus on creating a compassionate, inclusive culture that delivers our People Promise to everyone who works with us and supports us to provide the best quality, safest care we can to our communities, whilst keeping an eye on growing the workforce of the future and delivering the NHS’s Long Term Workforce Plan.
This is a critical role, reporting to our Chief Executive as a voting member of our board. You will have the experience we need to develop, implement and deliver our people and workforce strategy. With experience of working at or close to board level, you will understand the importance of forging effective partnerships with our people and system partners drive the change we need.
We can’t deliver the change we need without our people, and as our Chief People Officer you will be leading the work to continue building an inclusive culture at work where everyone feels safe, healthy and supported: this not only leads to better patient care but will underpin our long term workforce strategy to attract, recruit, retain and develop our workforce to deliver better care for the people of Torbay and South Devon.
We believe we can only improve what we do by including, listening and acting upon what our people tell us to deliver the changes we – and our patients – need. As the executive lead for Freedom to Speak Up, you will be an advocate for giving our people a safe space and voice and working with them to embed change in our organisation.
Why Work With Us
We have more than 6,000 dedicated people who are delivering compassionate health and social care in people’s homes, in our communities and across more than 15 sites in Torbay and South Devon, including our main acute hospital site at Torbay Hospital. Thanks to their hard work we are one of the 20 best NHS hospital trusts in the country for cancer performance and one of just a handful to have met the faster diagnosis standard for more than 16 months.
Our exciting plans to deliver our new electronic patient record by 2026 will be a game-changer, helping us to transform the way we share information, deliver care and improve efficiency across Devon. A key leadership responsibility of the CPO is to continue to review the cost efficiencies of the workforce, working closely with the Finance Director and Recovery Director to ensure that the true value of workforce is understood and the operational plan delivers both patient services and value for money. The CPO also works closely with colleagues across the NHS in Devon to ensure that collectively the workforce experience by our fantastic staff in Devon is aligned and opportunities for more collaboration are fully explored: the new HR Digital programme, due for introduction in Spring 2025, across the NHS Trusts in Devon is an example of this.
