The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, positive and highly competent 3D Design Technician. This part-time role will be 5 hours per day (25 hours per week) during term-time. Hours to be agreed between 9:00—16:00.
The main purpose of the 3D Design Technician is to support the departmental teaching staff in providing students at Dunottar School with a safe and effective 3D Design experience and ensure high levels of achievement and progress.

The Department
At Key Stage 3, 3D Design is taught in 55-minute lessons in rotation with Cookery and Nutrition in order to enthuse pupils and introduce them to the subject. The 3D Design workshop and CAD (Computer Aided Design) suite features the most up-to-date workshop machinery, tools and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) equipment, including a laser cutter and CNC router. In Key Stage 3 pupils receive an introduction to Three-Dimensional Design, develop their graphic communication skills (including the use of CAD/CAM Computer Aided Design/Manufacture), electronic textiles (e-textiles), user-centred design, design communication skills, model making and working with metals.
At Key Stage 4, pupils follow the OCR GCSE specification for Three-Dimensional Design. In Year 10, pupils spend the first two terms developing their design, CAD/CAM and practical skills, building upon their Key Stage 3 experiences, looking at product designers and architects for inspiration. After Easter, pupils will start their NEA (Non-Exam Assessment Coursework) portfolio. Previous projects have included lighting, storage, architectural design, furniture design, jewellery and product design. Pupils can use a range of materials including polymers, timber (natural and man-made), metal, plaster, concrete and glass (stained-glass and glass-fusing).
Key Responsibilities
* To prepare materials and resources as required by the subject teacher prior to lessons.
* To organise extra equipment for lessons as necessary.
* To ensure tools, machines and equipment are kept in optimum condition and stored correctly and carry out a daily inspection.
* To empty and clean the dust extraction filters as required by the manufacturer.
* To assist departmental staff in developing appropriate resources for teaching and learning. For example, the manufacturing of jigs, formers and templates for project use.
* To provide support for the teacher during practical lessons. This may include overseeing small groups of pupils during practical activities.
* Together with the Head of Department, maintain technician risk assessments for own work area and procedures as well as ensuring all safety signs for machinery are up to date.
* To organise materials in the department.
* To use the school's purchase ordering system to order materials and resources.
* To liaise with the Head of Department and the Finance Department to monitor the department's budget and check orders have been logged accurately.
* To organise and catalogue books within the department.
* To assist teaching staff in promoting and raising the profile of 3D Design within and outside School.
* To work as part of a team within the 3D Design Department assisting each other as and when required.
* Pastoral Care is the responsibility of all members of staff at Dunottar, staff must:
* Contribute to the pastoral care and personal development of pupils.
* Report any pastoral concerns to the Head of Year or in serious circumstances the Deputy Head Pastoral.
* Be fully conversant with the Child Protection policy and report any concerns or allegations to the Senior Designated Person.
