Overview
We are looking to recruit a part-time, 20 hours per week, Research Assistant/Associate in Sociology on a fixed-term basis for 9 months. The role supports a project led by Professor Manali Desai on the political economy of gendered violence in North India. Strong interest in gendered inequalities, population, and computational social science; experience handling complex survey data at scale.
Responsibilities
* Support research using publicly available government and other datasets (e.g., NFHS, DHS, NCRB, SC/ST Atrocities Act, SECC, IHDS, NES, Census, PLFS, SHRUG, and others) to map multidimensional violence, poverty, and gender.
* Manage, harmonize, and analyze complex survey datasets.
* Generate statistical and spatial insights to inform research on gendered violence.
Qualifications / Requirements
* Interest in gendered inequalities, population, and computational social science research.
* Experience handling complex survey data at scale.
* For Research Associate level, PhD is required; those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will start as Research Assistant (Grade 5) and move to Research Associate (Grade 7) upon PhD award.
Department Context
The Department of Sociology is part of a joint undergraduate degree programme in HSPS and has a vibrant MPhil and PhD programme. About 80 PhD students work on topics in sociology. Appointment and Term
The post is fixed term for 9 months. The funding end date is 9 months after the start date and the contract must finish by that date.
