A vacancy has arisen for a Plater/ Welder to join our Engineering team.
The role of Plater/Welder exists to support the manufacturing, construction, and maintenance of metal structures, components, and machinery. This role operates nationally, and the post holder must therefore be flexible with willingness to travel.
The role briefly encompasses the following duties:-
1. Prepare and cut steel and metal plates using oxyfuel, plasma cutters, and hand tools
2. Clean, strip, degrease, and preheat metals prior to fabrication
3. Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
4. Measure and mark out plate and structural steelwork accurately
5. Shape, form, and join metal plates and structural steel
6. Assemble components using lifting equipment, tack welding, and fasteners
7. Perform welding tasks ensuring strength and durability
8. Inspect welds and structures for defects and quality compliance
9. Follow health, safety, and environmental regulations
10. Report hazards, defects, and non-conforming materials
11. Maintain welding and cutting equipment
12. Manage tools and ensure proper care and security
13. Record fabrication processes, inspections, and material usage
14. Complete documentation related to welding and plating tasks
15. Collaborate with engineers and team members
16. Minimise downtime and material waste to improve efficiency
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills/experience/attributes:-
17. A solid understanding of welding equipment and welding accessories
18. Proficiency in MIG, TIG, MMA, and FCAW welding techniques
19. Ability to use oxyfuel cutting, plasma cutters, and grinding tools
20. Must be able to read interpret blueprints, welding process specifications and welding symbols
21. Must be able to operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes
22. Must have the ability to weld in all positions with quality
23. Must be able to read tape measure, pressure gauge, level and square
24. Ability to operate a Pendant Controlled Overhead Crane would be advantageous
25. Forklift Truck licence & IPAF certificate would be advantageous although training can be provided)
26. Time served craftsman
