Job Specification - Accounts Assistant

Salary: Up to £30,000 (DOE)
Overview
Our client is seeking an Accounts Assistant to join their growing finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate bank records, processing sales invoices, supporting month-end routines, and assisting with financial queries. This role is ideal for someone who is highly organised, numerically confident, and experienced within a finance function.
Key Responsibilities
* Import bank statements into the accounting system.
* Process cashbooks and reconcile bank accounts for parent and subsidiary companies.
* Process petty cash claims and complete reconciliations.
* Issue monthly credit card statements and process credit card returns.
* Handle daily banking tasks as required.
* Run daily/weekly bank statements and payments via online banking platforms.
* Ensure all deadlines are met consistently.
* Process and send Sales Ledger invoices along with required backup via secure email.
* Process ad-hoc card payments from customers/clients.
* Assist with credit control tasks when required.
* Assist with month-end routines to ensure the department's timetable is met.
* Post relevant expenditure journals.
* Provide cover for the Purchase Ledger Clerk during holidays or sickness.
* Handle purchase ledger queries when needed.
* Carry out ad hoc data analysis and financial reporting.
Person Specification Qualifications:
* NVQ/AAT Accounting or equivalent experience.
* Strong IT skills including spreadsheets, word processing and email.
* Experience using integrated accounting systems.
Experience:
* Experience working within a finance function.
* Ability to work effectively within a team.
* Experience posting financial transactions within accounting systems.
* Previous experience in a similar finance role.
Skills & Knowledge:
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Good understanding of financial systems and transaction processes.
* Competent spreadsheet skills for analysis and reporting. Personal Attributes
