Transport Planner – Logistics & Supply Chain

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Transport Planner on behalf of an established logistics organisation. This is a key role within a fast-paced operation, responsible for ensuring the efficient, cost-effective, and reliable movement of goods across a busy transport network.
This position would suit a highly organised and proactive individual who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys problem-solving in real time.
Key Responsibilities
1. Plan and optimise daily and weekly transport schedules to ensure maximum efficiency
2. Build and maintain effective delivery routes, balancing service levels with cost control
3. Monitor live transport operations and respond quickly to delays, breakdowns, or last-minute changes
4. Ensure all deliveries are completed on time and in line with customer expectations
5. Communicate clearly with drivers, providing accurate instructions and ensuring adherence to schedules
6. Work closely with warehouse, operations, and customer service teams to ensure smooth coordination
7. Manage relationships with subcontractors and third-party transport providers
8. Ensure full compliance with drivers’ hours, health & safety, and transport regulations
9. Maintain accurate records and update transport planning systems in real time
10. Review transport performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs
Skills & Experience
11. Previous experience in a transport planning, logistics coordination, or supply chain role
12. Strong understanding of route planning, scheduling, and transport operations
13. Working knowledge of drivers’ hours and transport compliance requirements
14. Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail
15. Ability to work under pressure and make effective decisions in a fast-moving environment
16. Confident communicator with experience liaising with drivers and internal teams
17. Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset
18. Experience using transport planning or logistics systems
19. A hands-on, team-focused approach suited to a busy operational environment
