About The Role

Be part of this ‘once in a generation’ project that will deliver clean energy to 6 million homes for the next 60 years. Sizewell C will see the creation of a 3.2 Gigawatt nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast to provide reliable low‑carbon electricity.

The Civil Works Alliance is an extended delivery enterprise involving Sizewell C and three international construction companies: Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics, and Laing O’Rourke.

What You'll Be Doing

A Managing Quantity Surveyor is an experienced QS who has a track record in managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. They seek to minimise costs and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. Typically, they will be a Chartered Member of the RICS, ICES, or CIOB. They will have experience of managing a small team of less experienced commercial staff, as well as mentoring others on their journey to becoming professionally qualified.

* Has a good knowledge of and adheres to the Company’s GMCEs, BMS and other governance, including SZC systems, processes, and governance
* Orders information and systematically checks data
* Maximises digital opportunities
* Prepares Activity Schedules, Resource Schedules & analyses tender documents
* Critically appraises, estimates, and negotiates the above with 3rd parties
* Planning
* Reviews complex contract programmes such as Time‑Location
* Assists with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes
* Project Management
* Monitors subcontract activities, measures and responds appropriately
* Analyses the commercial progress and reports to senior project staff
* Manages commercial aspects with Customer and Stakeholders for their area of responsibility
* Procurement
* Undertakes constructability analyses using construction programmes
* Prepares procurement programme and helps develop the strategy
* Commercial Management
* Analyses rates & prices, agreement of variations and or compensation events as required
* Undertakes customer and stakeholder management for their area of responsibility
* Prepares, submits and negotiates claims when required
* Prepares internal reports, commercial progress and financial reconciliation

* Prepares monthly operating statement and associated commercial reports
* Reports and explains commercial progress to senior teams
* Manages feedback of commercial data to Planning, Estimating, Marketing and Sales
* Formulates management plans for resource procurement
* Understanding of disputes resolution including options, structure and knowledge of the SCL Protocol
* Chain management and procurement techniques, estimating and surveying functions
* Manages commercial risk and opportunity
* Manages disallowed cost
* Experienced in recruiting and developing talent within the business
* Provides feedback on team strengths and weaknesses and supports performance management
* Determines project commercial staff requirements
* Links creative ideas to innovative outcomes and implements using a wide range of improvement techniques
* Manages risks and opportunities at a Project level and updates senior teams
* Sees the big picture and identifies where to make trade‑offs
* Awareness of political issues and seeks win‑win situations while maintaining effective relationships


Essential Qualifications & Experience

* BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience
* Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards)
* 42 hours per week
