MSE Hospitals is seeking an exceptional Locum Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery to join our expanding team across the MSE Group.
This role is a key appointment designed to strengthen the specialist trauma service at Southend Hospital. We are recruiting a Consultant with a special interest in orthopaedic trauma surgery, who will work alongside a highly experienced team of more than 50 Trauma & Orthopaedic Consultants across the organisation.
The successful candidate will primarily be based at the Southend Hospital site, contributing to the delivery of high-quality trauma care, supporting service development, and working collaboratively within a dynamic, forward-thinking department.

Responsibilities
Main duties of the job:
* Participate in the Trust's clinical effectiveness and maintain and foster improvements in the quality and standards of clinical services.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of the directorate's Clinical Governance Strategy, including production of a departmental annual clinical governance plan and regular reports to ensure targets are met.
* Adopt evidence‑based practice, comply with government guidance, establish a departmental clinical audit programme, complete a risk assessment, and comply with the Trust's risk management policies and assurance standards.
* Ensure, through the Management Team and Unit Training Director, that Directorate staff meet the education and training targets agreed within the Trust's annual plan.
* Manage timely and effective complaints and incident management, implement action plans related to individual complaints and incidents, and contribute to workforce planning.
* Clinical care for patients with orthopaedic conditions referred/admitted to MSE and participation in the management of orthopaedic trauma and musculoskeletal infection.
* Development and support for provision of orthopaedic services as part of a network across the East of England.

Person Specification
Essential
* Full GMC Registration
* Advanced knowledge and experience in childrens orthopaedic surgery
* Excellent communication, written and spoken English
* Worked at Consultant level
Desirable
* Experience of major surgical procedures
* NHS experience
